About

Griffith Stadium, with the exception of a minor construction project in 1961, stands as it was originally constructed in 1923. Design work for the modernization of the stadium began in 2006 and plans were approved by the Board of Trustees and ready to be sent to the state architect’s office in 2007 when the onset of the recession forced the project to be postponed. Given an improvement in the economy, the KHSD is now prepared to submit the plans to the state with a proposed timeline to begin construction in January of 2015. As of now, the modernization is planned to be completed by the summer of 2017.

The planned modernization includes, but is not limited to, moving the visitor stands behind the track; new concessions, ticket booths and restrooms for the home and visitor sides; the addition of two (2) “mini-Griffiths” that will attach to the current stadium that will expand seating and provide additional room for a new weight room and trainers facility;  replacing the locker and shower areas with modern plumbing and facilities; bringing the whole stadium to current ADA compliance; replacing the watering and drainage systems in the stadium and Morrow Field to ensure fields get evenly watered and properly drained when rain occurs;  redoing the field and the track; and enhancing curbs, gutters and parking.

How does the Driller Wall of Fame Fundraiser work?

We are encouraging the entire Driller Nation to participate in this memorable fundraiser by purchasing a tile that will be engraved with a personal message from you. The tile sizes range in size in accordance to your donation. You may customize the tile to honor you, your family, a BHS student(s) (past or present), your reunion class (purchased as a class), your business, in memoriam of a loved one, or simply a message of support. There are also clip art selections available if you wish to customize your tile to recognize you or your students’ participation in a variety of academic and extra-curricular activities that you or they participated in while attending BHS.

All donations are tax deductible and a receipt is available on-line for tax purposes. When you order online, you submit your donation via credit card through PayPal (the most secure online payment system in the world). After your donation, you will personalize your tile and specify how much of your donation will go to the stadium project and/or new band uniforms. If you wish to purchase a tile with a personal check or money order you can download a mail-in form here.

All tiles will be prominently displayed for the rest of eternity on the Driller Wall of Fame inside the stadium when the modernization of Griffith Stadium is complete. Additionally, we will send you a certificate that you can display at your home or business recognizing your donation to this project. Again, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact Principal Reese at david_reese@kernhigh.org.
